When South African founder Lennie Maré and Swedish co‑founder Ninna Andersson first connected online, neither imagined their conversations would spark a cross‑continental love story - let alone inspire a new LGBTQ+ platform now quietly gaining traction across Australia, South Africa and Sweden. But that’s exactly how Bloom LGBTQ+ began: not in a corporate boardroom, but in the messy, beautiful reality of two queer women finding each other across 10,000 kilometres.

Bloom is now an emerging digital space designed for dating, friendship, community, chosen family and wellbeing - built independently, without big investors, and shaped directly by the LGBTQ+ people who use it. Their story is proof that sometimes the most meaningful innovations come from lived experience, not tech giants.

A Connection That Started With “Just Friends”

Lennie and Ninna’s first interactions were casual TikTok messages, shared humour, late‑night chats. Both insisted they were “just friends,” but something deeper was quietly forming. As Lennie recalls:

“You slowly became the person I wanted to tell everything to. Something good happened - Nina. Something made me laugh - Nina.”

Their friendship deepened into intimacy, and eventually, they decided to take the leap. Ninna boarded a flight from Sweden to South Africa, unsure whether the magic of their digital connection would survive real life.
