ABOUT LOTL
Who We Are
LOTL has been a home for lesbian and queer women’s culture since 1989. Born as Lesbians on the Loose, the magazine became a lifeline for women across Australia - a place to find community, representation, politics, culture, and connection at a time when lesbian and queer stories were rarely seen or heard.
For 35 years, LOTL documented our lives: our activism, our art, our relationships, our humour, our heartbreaks, our victories, and the everyday moments that shaped queer womanhood across generations.
Today, LOTL is evolving again.
We are rebuilding LOTL as a modern queer cultural platform - a space for long‑form conversation, music, literature, history, and community. A place where lesbian and queer women and non‑binary people can speak in depth, with nuance, intelligence, and lived experience. A place where our stories are not reduced, simplified, or made palatable for mainstream audiences.
LOTL now brings together:
The LOTL Podcast - long‑form conversations with women shaping culture
Queer Music, Film & Literature - readings, performances, and creative showcases
The LOTL Archive - 35 years of magazines and articles preserved for research and memory
Community - events, discussions, and shared storytelling
Membership- supporting lesbian and queer media and unlocking exclusive content
This relaunch is not a nostalgia project. It is a continuation of LOTL’s original purpose: to create a space where lesbian and queer women can see themselves, hear themselves, and recognise their own lives reflected with honesty and depth.
LOTL remains independent, community‑driven, and proudly lesbian and queer. We honour our history while building something new - a platform that speaks to the next generation while preserving the stories of those who came before.
Welcome to the new LOTL. A cultural home for lesbian and queer women - past, present, and future.
