Naomi Palmer.
Naomi Palmer is a true Jill of all trades, with a colourful career spanning entertainment, community work and a remarkable range of professions. Originally from a tiny fishing village on the far north coast of NSW, Naomi made her way to Sydney, where she has been a qualified motor mechanic, a television and radio voice-over artist, a call centre customer service agent and a face painter for Ronald McDonald House.
In the world of drag, Naomi is best known as Hugo Retro, an award-winning drag king whose performing days are now behind her, but whose legacy lives on. A DIVA Award winner, Hugo made a memorable mark on Sydney’s drag scene, and Naomi continues to support and celebrate the art form as a judge for a national drag king awards event in Australia.
Naomi is also a much-loved fixture of Sydney’s LGBTQ+ community through her long-running role as co-host of Bingay, the ever-popular bingo extravaganza she has helped bring to life with her singing talent, quick wit and infectious energy for more than 26 years. Alongside drag queen Charisma Belle, she delivers a rambunctious night of bingo, balls and fabulous entertainment, raising vital funds for ACON, NSW’s leading HIV prevention and LGBTQ+ health organisation.
With decades of experience in entertainment, a deep connection to queer community and a keen appreciation of the creativity, character and craft that make drag so special, Naomi brings a wealth of knowledge and perspective to the judging panel.
