Dr Kerryn Drysdale.
Kerryn Drysdale (she/her) is an Associate Professor at UNSW Sydney. She conducts research at the intersection of social inquiry and public health, particularly in the experiences and expressions of health and wellbeing among marginalised and vulnerable communities. With her work straddling cultural studies and queer theory, Kerryn has an international reputation for her research into social scenes for LGBTAQ+ communities, especially where performance cultures hold opportunities for disseminating novel harm reduction and health promotion practices. Her first monograph, Intimate Investments in Drag King Cultures: The Rise and Fall of a Lesbian Social Scene, was published by Palgrave in 2019. More recently, Kerryn has a chapter in Routledge's Companion to Drag on Tasmania's drag king scene, co-authored with The Back Door Boyz, Tasmania’s premier drag king comedy and production group (2026). Her current research focuses on lesbian, bisexual and queer women's sexual and reproductive health and the ways that this community’s unique needs are not currently met – which is the subject of a new 4-year Australian Research Council Grant (Linkage 2026-2030). Yet, Kerryn will always remain an avid drag king fan and is fascinated by how drag performance cultures continually evolve.
