Shan Hooper and Phoebe Adams are the creative powerhouse behind iconic Tasmanian drag king duo The Back Door Boyz. Collaborating since 2012, they bring a multidisciplinary background in visual art, graphic design, and furniture design, creating everything from commissioned MONA interactive sculptures to the 2014 Artfully Queer award.
On stage, Phoebe’s Barry Bothways (est. 2013) and Shan’s Gary Snow (est. 2021) are renowned for sharp, inclusive comedy that ribs sideways while exploring gender. Their cultural impact across Tasmania earned them a spot as the main case study in Dr Kerryn Drysdale’s book chapter, "Tassie Kings".
Co-producers of regional mainstay New NorFunk and King Karaoke, they regularly host TasPride Summer Festival and Judy’s, performing alongside Drag Race royalty like Karen From Finance and Kween Kong. Since 2023, Shan and Phoebe have judged drag and statewide pole competitions, bringing an expert eye for stagecraft, character work, and audience connection to the panel.
