The first three films for this year’s Queer Screen Film Fest have been announced. Prepare yourselves for 12 fantastic films starting Tuesday, September 20.

This year’s program is pure quality, with star studded opening and closing night films. Other People opens the festival with Molly Shannon delivering an Oscar’s buzz performance in this moving comedy.

Other People revolves around a gay son who returns home to take care of his dying mother played by Molly Shannon. Shannon excels in portraying the tender, funny moments with her son as well as the agony of cancer and chemotherapy in this tragicomedy.

The Intervention

closes out the festival on 25 September seeing the reunion between Clea Duvall and Natasha Lyonne. In this hilarious comedy about the complexities of modern adult relationships, Duvall and Lyonne play an onscreen couple swept up in a ‘please get divorced’ intervention for another couple. The results are heartfelt, funny and poignant.

South Korea’s first and only gay men’s choir, G-Voice is seen in Weekends. For decades, this group have gathered to sing for equality and an end to discrimination towards the LGBTIQ community in their country. The only problem is…they aren’t very good. Weekend is a film about hope, kindness, friendship and love and ultimately about standing together in the face of adversity.
