Charlie Chan is one of Australia’s most innovative and sought‑after composers, known for blending classical training with cutting‑edge technology and a fearless approach to musical experimentation. With a career spanning more than four decades, Chan has collaborated with filmmakers, documentarians, musicians, and creative visionaries across the globe, building a reputation for emotional depth, technical mastery, and artistic curiosity.
A musical prodigy from Melbourne, Chan began performing professionally at just 13, demonstrating Yamaha keyboards in shopping centres and working as a copyist for Young Talent Time, meticulously preparing musical arrangements for weekly broadcasts. Since then, they have composed thousands of works, many of which remained unreleased - until now.
Chan’s latest project, Constellation, is a monumental undertaking: 52 solo piano albums, each named after a constellation visible in the sky on its release date. Every Friday for an entire year, a new album drops, drawn from more than 600 previously unheard recordings performed on a Bösendorfer Imperial 290 Concert Grand Piano - the largest piano ever made. It is a rare glimpse into three decades of creative output from one of Australia’s most prolific and visionary artists.
