The Brisbane Lesbian and Gay Pride Choir aims to double its membership in 2014, with new members welcome to join from the start of Semester 1 on 4 February.

‘We are a non-auditioned choir, open to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, intersex, queer and our straight allies,’ said David Hardy, Choir President. ‘It’s a great group to make friends, to sing together and to perform for the community. We advocate for change and equality, with a particular focus this year on the rights of same-sex couples to marry.’

February is the intake month for new members for Semester 1, with weekly rehearsals commencing on Tuesday, 4 February at 7.30 pm at a new venue for the Choir, the New Farm Library meeting room, 135 Sydney Street.

A free ‘Sing with Pride’ workshop will be held on Sunday, 16 February from 2 pm to 4 pm at the New Farm Library meeting room. No registration is required.

‘We would love to see you at this fun workshop led by our music director, Tim Smetham,’ said David Hardy. ‘Whether you are an experienced singer or only ever sing in the shower, this might be your year to join our Choir, especially with the exciting calendar of performances for 2014.’

Two Brisbane concerts are planned, an Australian/Irish concert on 17 May (International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia) and a Broadway-themed show for the second ‘Queensland Pride Concert’ on 19 September. A large group from the Choir will also tour Ireland and the UK in June 2014 to participate in the Various Voices GLBTI choral festival in Dublin.
