The Red Rattler needs to raise $40k in less than 45 days so it can continue into the future.

Save the Rat is the just launched fundraising campaign for the award winning and much-loved accessible arts space in Sydneyʼs inner-west the Red Rattler with a goal to ensure the venue stays open.

The Rattlerʼs 5th birthday party is fast approaching and therefore a dedicated team of unpaid board members, as well as a crew of over 50 volunteers, are all working tirelessly on the Red Rattlerʼs fundraising activities and events. Their aim is to raise loan costs in order to acquire a 40% share of the building.

The Red Rattler Theatre is the realisation of a collective vision of five queer inner-west artist (the Rat 5) andactivists, who wanted to create a legal, warehouse-style venue to showcase alternative Sydney arts, performance and grassroots activism.

Since its establishment some 5 years ago, over 500 performances and events have proven the vibrancy of the space and the demand for an affordable, professionally operated venue for the community.

The founders of The Red Rattler poured their heart and souls into the making a dream a reality. They hocked personal assets, borrowed from family, friends, banks and locked in day jobs to support loans and debit  in roder to raise the capital that would create a sustainable volunteer space.

The affordability, accessibility and inclusiveness of the Red Rattler has a crucial part in supporting local live music, creative expression and entertainment, from transgressive or queer performance art and burlesque, through to experimental sound and screen arts, along with many community organisations and projects. It would be a major loss for Sydneyʼs creative community to see another affordable space that showcases and champions
the arts and music close.
