Presenting the first Jazz Legend Award.
The Palm Springs Women’s Jazz Festival is back again this year, after a successful debut in 2013. As well as featuring the same high calibre of talent that made last year such a success, a new Jazz Legend Award will be presented to trumpeter Clora Bryant. A musical trailblazer, Bryant was the only female trumpeter known to collaborate the likes of Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie and she has played a pivotal role in making space for women instrumentalists in the male-dominated jazz world. Bryant has had a long and extraordinary career, from swinging with the Sweethearts of Rhythm to being one of the last living musicians of the Be-Bop jazz era, she has broken ground for women in jazz.
The festival, hosted by multi-award winning, critically acclaimed Festival Artistic Director, Sweet Baby J’ai, will celebrate stylistic and thematic diversity, and feature straight-ahead jazz, smooth jazz, contemporary jazz, Latin jazz, and blues played by some of the best of today’s artists. Forty national and international female jazz musicians will perform, including trumpeter, Cindy Bradley, Grammy nominated vocalist, Perla Batalla and,, legendary vocalist, Barbara Morrison, jazz guitar great, Mimi Fox and saxophonists Carol Chaikin and Pamela Williams.
