Ellen Page and Emma Portner have opened up about their (now fabled) relationship just days before their first Galentine’s Day together as newlyweds.

In an interview with The New York Times this week, Page, 30, and Portner, 23, chat about how they met, what they’re both working on at the moment – across dance and film – and how they like to spend their free time.

In a wonderfully millennial-shaped love story, Page tells of how she first spotted her dancer and choreographer wife on Instagram.

“I thought, damn, this girl is so talented and so cool,” says Page. “I knew right away we were both creative spirits.”

Portner, who’s been filming herself dancing since she was 12, has built up a dedicated following on both YouTube and Instagram. She’s appeared in music videos for The Biebs, and most recently choreographed a rock musical to Meatloaf’s greatest hits, which premiered on stage in London last summer.

In the interview, the newlyweds reveal that when they aren’t both busy working – either on their own projects, or together – they spend their time hiking, travelling to Joshua Tree National Park, or going along to an ice hockey game.

“We’re both Canadian, so of course we have to go to a hockey game,” reveals Page, who was born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Page rose to fame when she starred as uber-mature, pregnant teen Juno in the film of the same name. The film celebrated its 10th-anniversary last year, and was released when Page was just 19-years-old – and Portner, 12.

“I watched one of Ellen’s films when I was about 12 and I remember my friend saying: ‘You are just like this girl,’ ” Portner admits.

“I knew we’d cross paths someday — I just wasn’t quite sure when or how.”

Well, Portner certainly called that one.
