Torch Song Trilogy returns to SydneyHarvey Fierstein’s’ classic tale Torch Song Trilogy, of a drag queen’s search for love in the big city gets a re-imaging for Mardi Gras

Funny and poignant, Harvey Fiersteins intensely personal collection of three plays chronicles a Jewish New York drag-queen’s quest for love, respect and a life of which he can be proud.

From a failed affair with a reluctant lover, to a burgeoning relationship with a young fashion model, Arnold Beckoff’s greatest torment in life remains his turbulent relationship with his mother. The Broadway production won Fierstein two Tony Awards, for Best Play and Best Actor in a Play, two Drama Desk Awards, for Outstanding New Play and Outstanding Actor in a Play, and the Theatre World Award, and the screen adaptation in 1981 starred Fierstein, Anne Bancroft and Matthew Broderick.

The much acclaimed Torch Song Trilogy returns to Sydney for Mardi Gras 2013 in a bold new production directed by Stephen Colyer (Kiss of the Spider Woman, Paris Letter, Hello Again). The stellar cast – Simon Corfield, Thom Jordan, Amanda Muggleton, Mathew Verevis, Christian Willis and Belinda Wollaston – will bring this hilarious and touching story to life with the aid of live music, sung and played on stage by the cast.

‘Fierstein has written a devastatingly comic play with just the right resonances. It is a play about love and the merciless mayhem love wrecks.’’ – Clive Barnes, New York Post.
