Out and Loud Gala Concert
Out and Loud Gala Concert

Sydney Gay & Lesbian Choir, in association with Sydney WorldPride, is delighted to announce that special guest, singer and actor Tim Draxl, will perform with the 500-strong massed choir at the Gala Concert of the Out & Loud & Proud International choral festival on Thursday 23 February in the magnificent Sydney Town Hall.

This is a unique opportunity to enjoy the incredible power of a massed choir celebrating diversity and harmony.

The concert is the culmination of a five-day festival, bringing singers from across Australia and the world to participate in workshops, rehearsals, performances, and events. The Gala will feature performances by each participating choir, and special guest Tim Draxl will MC the event and perform with the massed choir.

“This is my second time performing with the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Choir, and I’m thrilled to be performing with them and the rest of the singers as part of the Sydney WorldPride celebrations,” said Draxl.

The massed choir, conducted by Festival Creative Director, Adam Majsay, will also premiere two specially commissioned works: an Acknowledgement of Country by Yuwaalaraay storyteller and performer Nardi Simpson and a Festival Anthem by award-winning composer Joseph Twist with lyrics by Wiradjuri poet Jazz Money.

Participants include choirs from across Australia – Melbourne Gay & Lesbian Chorus, Canberra Qwire, Brisbane Pride Choir, True Colours Chorus Darwin and Perth Pride Choir. We are also delighted to welcome international choirs, including Lian Esperansa from Timor Leste, Tokyo Pride Choir and the GALA Choruses Singers from the USA, as well as individual singers from around the world as part of the Individual Voices Choir led by internationally renowned queer chorus director, Dr Kathleen McGuire.

In the week leading up to the concert, participating choirs will sing at some of the city’s iconic spaces with pop-up performances in areas such as the Australian National Maritime Museum, the Museum of Sydney and the Calyx in the Sydney Botanic Gardens. A fantastic lineup of workshops will be led by some of Australia’s best musicians and choral specialists, including Brett Weymark, Margi de Ferranti and Jonathon Welch.  Workshops, including Beatboxing for Beginners and Mongolian Throat Singing, will encourage singers to expand their skills.
