Good news from the next South Australian Premier.

Jay Weatherill has been selected as the next South Australian Premier and he has declared his support for marriage equality. He said, “I’ve always been a supporter of same-sex couple marriage,” and also mentioned that he has long been an advocate of obliterating discrimination of same-sex couples.

Peter Furness of Australian Marriage Equality said in reponse to Weatherill, “We welcome Mr Weatherill’s support for marriage equality, as will the majority of South Australians who support equality. Weatherill joins Labor leaders in Queensland, NSW, Victoria, Western Australia, Tasmania and the ACT who all support equality. This high level of support for marriage equality helps build momentum for change in the lead up to the ALP National Conference in December.”

Weatherill is expected to be elected ALP leader in October of this year.
