Call On Abbott Government To Follow Scotland’s Lead On Marriage Equality Free Vote

We have seen overwhelming support for marriage equality in the Scottish parliament, and we are now calling on the Abbott Government to allow a conscious vote for all members.
Overnight, Scottish MPs voted 98 to 15 to give in-principle support to a new law allowing same-sex couples to marry. If passed, the law will bring Scotland in line with England and Wales which enacted an equivalent law earlier this year.
Stand Up With Pride president, Krys Fischer, said,
"We already know that majority of Australians support Equality, and to have our Government fighting us in the High Court instead of supporting us is an embarrassment to the Country and indeed Internationally."
Also overnight, marriage equality legislation was signed into law in the US state of Illinois, meaning over one in three US citizens now live in states that allows same-sex couples to marry.
