The social media platform YOUTUBE responds to angry queer vloggers.
Many LGBT YouTubers have begun to notice that their videos are being hidden in the site’s Restricted Mode.
High-profile blogger, Neon Fiona, posted a screenshot on her Twitter feed showing that YouTube had removed all of her videos with LGBT+ related titles.
According to its website, the video sharing service uses community flagging, age-restrictions and other markers to identify and filter out potentially inappropriate content.
“The intention of restricted mode is to filter out mature content,” YouTube said in a statement Sunday. “LGBTQ+ videos are available in restricted mode, but videos that discuss more sensitive issues may not be. We regret any confusion this has caused and are looking into your concerns.”
Following protests from users, including the musicians Tegan and Sara and and gay-rights advocate Tyler Oakley, YouTube tweeted yesterday that it might have made a mistake:
