Melbourne Rainbow Band invites new members to open rehearsalFresh from performances at Midsumma Carnival and participating in Pride March, the Melbourne Rainbow Band is holding an open rehearsal.

While new members are welcome at any time, the open rehearsal provides an excellent opportunity for woodwind, brass or percussion instruments players who may be interested in becoming a member of the Melbourne Rainbow Band to sit in on a rehearsal and meet the band.

Membership of the band is open to people of almost any musical skill level, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. MRB Musical Director Greg Peterson said of the Melbourne Rainbow Band, “It is enriching to stand in front of an enthusiastic team of people whose range of musical ability, age and sexual orientation are as diverse and varied as the concert band literature they perform. We look forward to welcoming interested musicians to the open rehearsal to see what we can do”.

The band endeavours to cater to various musical abilities, and its members range in skill, from an essential ability to read music to professional musicians and educators. The band annually awards scholarships to encourage members to develop their music skills.

Currently, the members of the MRB are transitioning from the band’s summer repertoire to a more complex and diverse program for their concert in mid-May which will feature music inspired by literature.

The open rehearsal will be held in Windsor at the Will Sampson Centre, Henry Street, on Thursday 20th, February 2014. Participants must bring their instruments; music and music stands are provided.
