There are a variety of comprehensive fertility treatments for single women.

Are you considering going it alone to become a parent and wondering what the options are? Trends show more people, particularly women, are choosing to go down the parenthood path on their own with the help of fertility treatments.

Options for Single Women

There are a variety of comprehensive fertility treatments (using donor sperm) to give single women the opportunity to start a family. These include:

  • Donor Insemination (DI): This involves artificial insemination – a fertility procedure in which treated sperm is inserted into a woman’s uterus directly at the fertile time to provide a chance of conception. This method for single women usually involves the use of frozen sperm from a donor.

  • In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) with donor sperm: For single women it involves the fertilisation of the egg by a donor sperm in an incubator outside the body, followed by transfer of the embryo back into the uterus. For this to take place the woman has to undergo a full IVF cycle, including an egg-retrieval process.

  • Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) with donor sperm: is a specialised form of IVF and involves the injection of a single sperm directly into a mature egg.

Rainbow Fertility has a variety of clinic-recruited donor sperm available, with a range of donor profiles allowing you to select your preferred match. To ensure the safety of our patients, all our sperm donors undertake both a semen analysis and a series of pathology tests as part of the routine screening process and have undergone counselling with a qualified fertility counsellor.

If you have decided to go down the path of becoming a single mother then the first step is to get a referral from a GP and attend a consultation with a fertility specialist, where you will learn about the medical procedures involved and have your medical history assessed.
