Tina Cesa Ward made “In Their Absence” in 2004, before she became known for some of the best web series out there today: Anyone But Me, Good People In Love and Producing Juliet.

This short film  is about two women who fall in love during WWII.  It takes place in a smoke filled club that’s populated by women since the men are at war.

No words are spoken throughout the 8:20m, but the music, the period atmosphere and the expressions on the women’s faces when they find out WWII is over, don’t need words.

In Their Absence is a very nuanced film that left me feeling sad on the one hand and glad on the other that we live in the time that we do.
