Sydney Film Festival has begun, and it’s bringing you the very best in queer storytelling from around the world as part of its stacked lineup of over 200 films

We have to shout out the riotous Aussie animation Lesbian Space Princess, winner of the Teddy Award, the world’s oldest and most prestigious queer cinema prize, at the Berlinale earlier this year. Filmmaking couple Leela Varghese and Emma Hough Hobbs will transport you on an intergaylactic mission alongside introverted Saira, the titular lesbian space princess (voiced by Gemma Chua Tran), as she attempts to rescue her bounty hunter ex girlfriend from the “Straight White Maliens” (the Aunty Donna boys), and, Saira hopes, win her back in the process.

Then, keep the celebration going at the Lesbian Space Princess Premiere Party! Taking place at the Hub after the film’s Australian Premiere on June 5, it’ll be an out-of-this-world, out-of-the-closet evening of themed cocktails, dress-ups, and the filmmaking team, co-hosted with GiRLTHING.Find your seats, find your stories, find your community.
