SYDNEY BEATS FOR THE BOX

Ovarian Cancer Survivor, Caitlin Delaney is hosting a one-off dance party, overlooking Sydney Harbour with international music legends DJ Kate Monroe and DJ Sveta, to make a real difference to the lives of 18,000 women living with gynaecological cancer in Australia and New Zealand today.

To coincide with International Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month, Sydneysiders are invited to the exclusive ‘View by Sydney’ on Thursday 19th September from 7 pm – 11 pm, to dance the night away whilst raising vital funding for Save the Box.

Save the Box is about starting the conversation, taking action and breaking the silence about gynaecological cancers. It is a unique and successful campaign of WomenCan, which fundraises for the Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group (ANZGOG). ANZGOG is the only national gynaecological cancer research organisation in Australia.

Caitlin, an IVF scientist from Petersham states “As a scientist, I know that my only hope for seeing my girls grow up is through clinical trials and more research into the causes, prevention, and treatment of ovarian and other gynaecological cancers”.

“Virtually every advance in gynaecological cancer survival has been made on the back of clinical trialsThis is why I am so passionate about supporting WomenCan’s campaigns to raise money for ANZGOG. ANZGOG conducts and promotes cooperative clinical trials and undertakes research into causes, prevention and treatments of gynaecological cancers. They give women like me hope”.

“Only FOUR in 10 women diagnosed with ovarian cancer will survive five years after diagnosis. This compares to nine in 10 women surviving breast cancer in the same period. Breast cancer survival rates have dramatically improved over the years due to increased funding for research and clinical trials. It’s time to help break the silence about the ‘box’ and raise funds for research into gynaecological cancers.”

Regarding her involvement with the event, DJ Sveta explains

“I have a number of friends that have been affected by gynaecological cancer. It really can strike any woman at any age. We need to take action and start the conversation so that women are more aware of symptoms, check their bodies and are able to get the care that they need if they are diagnosed.”

“Survival rates for all cancers has improved by 19% over the past 25 years, but survival rates for gynaecological cancer has improved by only 7%. I hope that by increasing awareness we can really encourage more support from government services and raise critical funding for research to improve this statistic” states DJ Sveta.
