LITHwebpaintingTo keep you busy on the weekend of the Lesbians in the House Concert at the Sydney Opera House on July 10th, 2011, there are fabulous winter warming activities to connect the lesbian community.

Womyn are coming to Sydney’s Inner West from all over Australia, so why not meet them at a dress up Bush Dance (prizes for best dressed!) on Friday night, July 8th? They’ll be kicking off with an eight-piece lesbian bush band at 7:30 at Herb Greedy Hall, Marrickville. There will be some special guests singing for the crowd – KD Twang will entertain with Constant Raving while the dances will get you sweating and laughing. Supper is included, and tickets are at the door for $10/15.

On Saturday July 9th, a ‘Day in Newtown’ will feature heaps of activities, starting at 10am at the Newtown Neighbourhood Centre.  There’ll be a lesbian artisans market, a martial arts self defense exhibition, poetry from our finest local poets  at 11am, a walking tour of Newtown at 12:30, film-reviewss and an open mic segment from 1:30 to 3pm. (If you would like to entertain at the open mic contact Creative Womyn Down Under directly.) At 3pm Katrina Fox will facilitate a forum, which is an opportunity to hear from others and keep the culture of debate alive and well.  All this for $10/15 with morning and arvo tea included.

Go off and have some dinner on King Street and return for The Women’s Library at 7pm for a lesbian film-reviews and free popcorn. The cover charge $5/$10 and goes to support The Womens Library, 10 Brown Street, Newtown. Afterwards, you’ll be ready for a late night gelato and a Sunday sleep in, with time to organise your breath-taking outfit for the Sydney Opera Theatre, where for four exciting hours a showcase of lesbian performers will enthral and move you to joy and pride. If you can help out at the Bush Dance or on Saturday, let the crew at Creative Womyn know. They have told us that they just can’t wait to celebrate all that is strong, fun and inspiring about our dynamic culture and lives.

To win a double pass to the Bush Dance and Day in Newtown, email your name to [email protected] by 20 June 2011 to go into the draw.

Extra special news – we are excited that a wonderful team of 13 womyn Auslan Interpreters will be signing the Lesbians in the House Concert.
