This educational seminar will provide information on the options available for becoming a parent in the LGBTIQ community.

Rainbow Families, the volunteer organisation that provides a network of support to children and families within the New South Wales LGBTIQ community, is set to host an educational seminar for the LGBTIQ community.

The ‘Making Rainbow Families’ seminar will provide information on the options available for becoming parents.

The seminar will include presentations and workshops covering donor insemination, IVF, fostering, adoption and surrogacy. Attendees will also be provided with expert information on legal rights and obligations and the opportunity to meet and hear from real life rainbow families.

Rainbow Families decided to hold the seminar in response to a need for unbiased, comprehensive and expert parenting information for the LGBTIQ community.

This seminar will bring together the best professionals in their fields to help prospective parents be well-informed and understand all available options for creating rainbow families. It also allows attendees to meet others on a similar journey.

“Deciding to become parents is just the beginning of the journey. It’s exciting but for many it’s also incredibly daunting, as you try to make informed decisions about the best path for your situation,” said Vanessa Gonzales from Rainbow Families.

“With so many resources geared towards heterosexual couples, we saw a real need for information specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of our community.”

Rainbow Families has established a reputation for providing varied support to existing LGBTIQ parents and their children, including events, advocacy and education.

The ‘Making Rainbow Families’ seminar will also be the launch of Rainbow Families’ education and research program.

Keynote speakers will include Penny Sharpe MLC, women’s health expert Joanne Perks, and IVF Australia medical director Associate Professor Peter Illingworth, among many others.
