The fourth season of the hit web series has its world premiere on March 1st.

The full fourth season of Starting From… Now!, the queer web series from the award-winning Julie Kalceff, is coming to screens at the Mardi Gras Film Festival.

It’s rare, and wonderful, to see content driven so entirely by queer women. With its all-woman core cast and creative team, Starting From… Now! blossomed out of creator Kalceff’s determination to represent the stories and communities not visible in traditional media. From its humble beginnings as a self-funded, local web series, the show has since become a worldwide hit. With over 20 million views on YouTube, it has received support from Screen Australia and Screen NSW and is set to air on SBS2 this year.

Centering on four femme lesbians (Steph, Darcy, Kristen, and Emily) living in inner Sydney, the series follows the struggles of identity, career, and relationships in its characters’ tangled lives. It’s a little reminiscent of Lena Dunham’s Girls, if Girls were set in Petersham and was super gay… or even slightly diverse.

The highly anticipated fourth season of Starting From… Now! has a definite dark edge. Its six episodes compellingly explore how the four women face difficulties from heartbreak and betrayal, to infertility, substance abuse, and trauma. The lives of the women are messy and raw, and their sexuality is refreshingly incidental – the show portrays intricate characters who just happen to be lesbians. It’s exciting to see such wonderful storytelling about queer women moving into the spotlight, and on such a large stage at the Mardi Gras Film Festival.
