Before all the sparkle of the Parade, Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras hosted the who’s who of the LGBTQI community, as well as Mardi Gras festival artists and supporters, at their famous VIP Party last night at Sheraton on the Park.

Welcoming guests were Sydney Gay, and Lesbian Mardi Gras CEO Michael Rolik and Co-Chairs Paul Savage and Siri Kommedahl, who spoke of the incredible diversity of the LGBTIQ community and encouraged all that Mardi Gras is the time to let their colours burst into a kaleidoscope of celebration.

On that night, a special 85th birthday mention went out to Ron Austin, one of the architects of the first Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras march in 1978.

Guests included singer Tina Arena, gender illusionist and Mardi Gras Ambassador Shane Jenek (AKA Courtney Act), MP Alex Greenwich, Chaz Bono and Mardi Gras VIP Party Launches Weekend of Celebration.
