Woman screaming through megaphoneThe Brisbane Pride Choir has announced a competition for a new song, with the winning composer receiving a commission valued at $2,000.

“It is exciting for our Choir to perform original pieces, including those specifically commissioned for us,” said Katherine Richardson, Choir President. “The song is to be about ‘looking forward’ and ‘what’s next’ for the LGBTI community. It is likely to be the sort of song that a choir like ours might perform at Pride Fair Day or community festivals.”

Composers have until 31 August to submit an expression of interest for a new song for use by the Brisbane Pride Choir and other LGBTI choirs. The application would include:

  • An abstract of your proposed composition
  • A short biography
  • Examples of your compositions

The competition for the new song is part of a grant the Choir has received in 2015 from the Queensland Community Gambling Benefit Fund.
