We spent three months looking all across Australia for LOTL’s Bachelorette of the Year.

We tried to narrow it down to a top ten, but we had too many fabulous bachelorettes to go that small. We have a top fourteen contestants. Take a look at the finalists and vote on the page or via mobile. You have until February 25th, 2012 to decide on a winner. We’ll announce the winner at our Gala Event at The Bank Hotel. We hope you’ll join the party, which will feature entertainment by Lady L, spins by DJ Fiesty, and the announcement of who will win the crown and take home the trip for two to the Northern Territory.

Here are your finalists:

If you could rule the world what is the first thing you would change?

I’d give everyone equal rights, such as allowing same-sex couples to marry and to have the same rights as everybody else. I feel that this is the biggest issue we all face on a day-to-day basis. No discrimination in the world equals a world where we can all live in peace.

How would your friends describe you?

Well, my best friend Emily describes me as: “Amazing, caring, selfless, fiercely loyal, patient. One time when I hit a low point and wanted to give up on my studies, Lisa cancelled all her plans for the day and took me on an adventure to the art gallery and the botanical gardens where she had me forget all my troubles. She reminded me why I was there and showed me things weren’t as bad as they seemed. Lisa is the friend who would do anything for me and anyone else she cares about. She’s dedicated to whatever she sets her mind to, and is amazingly artistic. She’s creative and inspires me to do things I’d never thought I could do. And whoever she ends up with, should consider themselves one of the most blessed people in the world, as time spent with Lisa is time you appreciate forever.”

Would you do anything for love?

Yes, I would do anything that is conductive in a monogamous and healthy relationship. If I were Altus I would pull stars from the sky. If I were Poseidon I would dry up streams and use the water to grow flowers where ever she may be so she can always walk in beauty…but alas I am mortal, so short of the miraculous, the sky’s the limit.

You’re writing your own wedding vows – what would they say?

Past my mind, beyond my heart, I love you from my soul. And that’s the space where only you and I, together grow old.

What qualities do you think our BOY should embody?

They should defy the cliché. Lesbians are more than just short hair and butch clothing. Each female has her own sense of identity, and I think the BOY should represent that. They need to be honest, down to earth and yet still know how to have a good time and really make the most of life, even if life throws them a curveball. They know how to deal with it and know when they have to be strong and also know when it’s all right to be vulnerable.

Cat or dog?

Gosh, that’s a hard one. But it would have to be a cat, as I have one and well Willow…he is my little man.

If you could rule the world what is the first thing you would change?

I would organize the redistribution of global food production so that people aren’t dying of starvation in developing countries. Shame! “The richest 20% of people in the world consume nearly half the meat and fish in the world, but the poorest 20% consume just 5%.” (FAO, 2000) For more click here.

How would your friends describe you?

Outgoing, ambitious, amorous, fun, adventurous, and sometimes a little bossy!

I would make my girl my partner in all things, sharing the good times and bad, both equal halves of one whole. Anything she wants.. she gets!  Including all my love and attention, always.

You’re writing your own wedding vows – what would they say?

Hmm, that’s a tough one… I think it would depend on the person I was marrying. I would want them to be specific to her, her needs and wants of the marriage and what marriage would mean to us as a couple. Not something I would want to presume at this point in my life.

What qualities do you think our BOY should embody?

The ability to be a great spokesperson/ representative of all the lesbians in Australia. (Including Femmes!) Namely be: outgoing, sexy, confident, friendly and smart. Able to get along with people from all walks of life and have integrity and morals.

Tracey, 31,

If you could rule the world, what is the first thing you would change?

I would remove all legislative discrimination, hence restoring equality for all human beings. There should not be any segregation or disempowerment regardless of sexuality, religion, social class, financial status, health, or gender.

How would your friends describe you?

Those who know me well would describe me as an outgoing, fun and spontaneous person.  I am effervescent with tenacity and enthusiasm for life that can be alluring. I love music on all different levels and am energetic and creative in all that I do. However, for those people whom I trust and who are close to my heart, they would also say that I am a relatively sensitive and vulnerable person with a tender heart just looking to belong as are all human beings.

Would you do anything for love?

No, I would not do anything for love. However, being ‘in love is a different story. I would do whatever it takes to be with that person and to build a future with that person. I believe that being ‘in love’ inspires my own sense of self and experiences of the world.

Wedding vows:

From the first time I looked into your eyes, I felt that the world around me disappeared.  I watch you sleeping, I hear you breathing, I see your smile and I know I have found where I belong. Being with you is what I believe must be ‘ecstasy’ as you arouse my emotions, my heart, my mind and my body in every way. Your existence validates my own existence. It is because of you that I know I will reach the skies and it is because of you that I want to. I feel sheer and utter honour to be standing here before you and giving every part of me to you.

What qualities do you think our BOY should embody?

Strong convictions
Courageous, confident and proud of the woman she is
Insightful into her own sense of self
Respectful to all others that she associates with
Sensitive and empathic to the needs of others
Ability to relate to all walks of life
Fun-loving, enthusiastic and dynamic
