Cate Blanchett Starring In The Maids
Cate Blanchett In The Maids

A tale of sibling rivalry, ritual, dress ups and murder will feature at The Sydney Theatre Company starring Cate Blanchett

Benedict Andrews returns to Sydney Theatre Company to direct Cate Blanchett, Isabelle Huppert and Elizabeth Debicki in Jean Genet’s notorious tale of sibling rivalry, ritual, dress-ups and murder.

The Maids is presented in a new translation by Benedict Andrews and STC Artistic Director Andrew Upton using a direct, contemporary vernacular that remains true to the confronting nature of the original. Performances are at Sydney Theatre from 4 June to 20 July, with opening night on Saturday 8 June 2013.

Jean Genet loosely based his tale on the true story of the Papin sisters (Cate Blanchett and French screen legend Isabelle Huppert), maids convicted of killing their employer. His version of the tale depicts a series of sadomasochistic rituals in which housemaids Solange and Claire fantasize about killing their madame while dressing up in her outfits

Opening Night: Saturday 8 June at 7.30 pm
