Over eight hundred people, including the Sydney Homotones, marched down Marrickville Road on Sunday 19 April to mark the centenary of the ANZAC landing at Gallipoli.

“The Marrickville community will continue to pay tribute over the coming weeks,” Mayor Gardiner said. “I urge all Marrickville citizens to see the Marrickville Soldiers exhibition at Marrickville Town Hall which includes amazing stories of heroics, suffering, and triumph.”

“As well, there is a series of talks and movie screenings, and of course the annual dawn Service on ANZAC Day organised by Petersham RSL, one of the major sponsors of Marrickville Remembers,” Mayor Gardiner said.

Danny Fitzgerald, Chief Executive of Petersham RSL, said all local citizens are invited to the Dawn Service.

“Petersham RSL is very pleased to be a major sponsor of Council’s Marrickville Remembers. Yesterday was a fitting way to start a week of reflection and commemoration. It was really inspiring to see so many Marrickville citizens turn out to honour the sacrifices made by the Marrickville community one hundred years ago.”

Mayor Gardiner agreed. “It is really gratifying to see how wholeheartedly Marrickville Remembers is being embraced by the community,” he said.

The Marrickville Soldiers Exhibition, which officially opened at Marrickville Remembers, continues at Marrickville Town Hall until Monday 27 April, before moving to Marrickville Library from Monday 4 May – Sunday 21 June.
