A forum in Sydney’s Barton electorate will encourage community members to get involved in the campaign, while Australian Marriage Equality is active in different 30 seats this election.

Australian Marriage Equality (AME) will hold an election forum for Sydney’s Barton electorate on 16 June.

The forum is being held to encourage Barton community members to get involved with the campaign, ask questions, and share stories about why marriage equality matters.

Australian Marriage Equality National Spokesperson Shirleene Robinson said, “It’s about members of our families, our friends, neighbours and workmates. It’s important that they have the same aspirations and opportunities in life as every Australian.”

This forum will be the largest election campaign undertaken by AME, who will be active in more than 30 seats across every Australian state this election.

Ms Robinson said that supporters and candidates across every major party have united in the issue of marriage equality, and AME have a plan to “ensure this election returns stronger support than ever.”

AME will also focus efforts on reaching out to Liberal, National, Labor, Greens, and Independents in order to win over MPs and candidates throughout the campaign season.

“We continue to send the message that a plebiscite on marriage equality is unnecessary and expensive and it can easily be resolved by a vote in the Parliament. Our goal is for every Australian to share in the happiness, security and commitment that comes from marriage,” Ms. Robinson said.
