Kristy Apps and the Shotgun Shirleys
In the clatter and noise of the Australian singer-songwriter set, it can be hard to find a voice that really grabs you. But when you listen to Kristy Apps, you know you’re hearing something really special – it’s worth noting to the self, “This is not music as wallpaper!”
Kristy Apps delivers her songs, as if she was hand delivering you a telegram wrapped in a powerhouse voice, written for you or someone you know. It’s a craft she has honed over a decade of writing and performing, carving her niche in the Australian songwriter community, whilst winning plenty of fans around the globe.
Weaving finely spun elements of folk, alternative country and rock, The Shotgun Shirleys are Kristy’s hand-picked band consisting of some of Brisbane’s finest skirt wearing string-smiths including Sallie Campbell (violin), Ruth Gardner (guitar) & Shiv Zimmerman (bass). To see the complete outfit live is to be confronted with a wall of sound that is both fragile and bold in its framing of Kristy’s heartfelt, bare and highly original compositions.
“One of the top three shows of 2010” (Rhythms Magazine), Kristy has performed with artists like Deborah Conway, Jen Cloher, and Pete Murray at venues and festivals all over Australia – including the Woodford Folk Festival. And she’s hit the road across the USA chalking up sets at numerous venues including the Philadelphia Entertainment Centre and the Susquehanna Folk Festival.
Her current release ‘Pour Me Out’ and third full-length album are described as easily her strongest work to date. Listen to it and it’s all but impossible to tune out, hence why “Pour Me Out” has achieved such critical acclaim including Rave Magazine Album of the Week and 4ZZZ’s most played album of the week – showcased on Triple J’s Roots ‘n All, and ABC National and community radio across the country. Ranked as one of the Top 10 albums of the year by national blues and roots publication – Rhythms Magazine.
GENRE: All-girl folk & acoustic. Roots and indie.

DaniElle DeLaite
Essentially, DaniElle DeLaite is a storyteller of the experiences of others, herself and imagined experiences. Music and lyric can touch the emotional core as the listener recognises an emotion, and/or experience that has been longed for or regretted. Just as valuable is the mood created by the song or the energy stirred with upbeat songs that put people in a fun mood and may even lead to dancing!
DaniElle DeLaite has been on the stage in some capacity since the tender age of three-years-old. She has travailed through the trials and tribulations of failed recording contracts and unscrupulous agencies yet she has never given up on her dream of being a performer.
After winning the i98FM Listeners’ Choice Award in the Australian-wide competition by Musicoz several years ago, DaniElle moved from Kiama to Sydney where her performances in clubs caught the eye of local producers. She then began to write up a storm with Audius, Israel Cruz, the DNA boys and long time friend, Monious.
So with a thirst for adventure and a swag of songs, DaniElle went to France. Paris clubs loved her mix of Pop/Dance. An opportunity to tour New York and Los Angeles came her way and she moved to L.A. She became a popular performer in the bi-coastal club scene. DaniElle had a blast!
Now back in Australia the singer songwriter is releasing her second single “Love Sex Goddess” together with a remix by Hoxton Whores. The song was inspired by media coverage of Angelina Jolie at a Cannes film-reviews Festival. In addition to studying dance, performing and working on her music, DeLaite also acts. She has appeared on stage performing in the plays Godspell, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Oliver and Annie. DeLaite has the confidence, talent and knowledge to become a star with her ability to sing, dance, act and write her own music. So pay attention!
GENRE: A classy cocktail of original pop and dance music

Emma Wall & the Urban Folk
Three-piece chick rock outfit – Emma Wall and her band the Urban Folk, are charismatic and quirky, engaging and energetic. They're going to tell you how they feel and it's going to be raw, it's going to be in your face and there will be very little in the way of punches pulled.
“Emma Wall is a barefooted cowgirl meets stand-up comic/musician… creating a unique style that just works.” Lucie McMahon – Inpress Magazine
To get your musical bearings, think of a more irreverent version of Ani DiFranco, shift things into high gear, and there you have Emma Wall. Emma’s blend of infectious power-folk, combined with searingly powerful vocals and playful stage demeanour, gets the crowd grooving in unison throughout their impressive sets.
The ever-evolving discography from Emma Wall and the transformation from The Emma Wall Band to Emma Wall and the Urban Folk has culminated with the release of funky mixes of urban folk with splashes of rock and pop.
Voted top three live shows of 2010 (Sue Barrett, Rhythms Magazine), Emma’s skilful guitar, sweet but strong vocal and zany personality leave audiences walking away with a skip in their step and a smile on their face.
Wall’s strengths lie in her versatility, her sweet, distinctive voice and her memorable songs. As time goes by she continues to impress as her confidence and song writing capabilities mature. Among distinguished company she holds her own, captivating audiences in the process.
Their new album – Shiny New Toy has its foundation as an acoustic guitar, bass and drum outfit with elements of electric guitar accompaniment and a chorus of beautiful harmonies that showcase the true talent of these musicians.
GENRE: Influences of blues, folk, funk, jazz, reggae and rock

The Flumes
Electric Harp pouring out psychedelic melodies over a stylin’ rhythm section laced with soulful vocals, kicking out a lushly funky, dark and sparkling, intoxicating brew.
The Flumes transcend genres, awakening audiences to the deliciousness of music and kicking out a fat live sound. Springing from the sultry depths of the deep North, the Flumes are at home on the Sunshine Coast.
Harper Kayt Wallace immerses herself in 36 strings of Electric Harp, artfully bending the organic tones of this ancient instrument as her vocals sweep from whispers to soulful roars. Combined with the tasty grooves of rhythm section players Stephan Beattie on Bass/Guitar & Elliot Gwynne on skins. For all of you genre junkies out there, this psychedelic trio loosely aligns with the Alt-folk/Roots movement, but if you’re expecting Irish ditties prepare to have your preconceptions blown. With Kayt’s wah and delay stylings on the harp and smoky vocal hues, The Flumes slip through the cracks somewhere between Portishead and Hendrix.
Received warmly both on festival stages and intimate venues, The Flumes have performed at the following soirees: Woodford, Island Vibe, Earth Frequency, Mission Evolve, Kuranda Roots, Winter Solstice, Caloundra Music, Palm Creek, Yungaburra and Australian Body Art festivals.
Their support slots include: Kingfisha, The WooHoo Revue, The Beards, Stringmansassy and the Violent Femmes. The Flumes have also been known to lend their sound to stage, screen and pyro-theatre.
The Flumes are currently cutting fresh tracks following up on the success of their independently released 2011 EP “Swell” from which 2 tracks were awarded Highly Commended in the Queensland Music Awards 2011 Blues and Roots category.
GENRE: Influences of blues, folk, funk, jazz, reggae and rock

DJ arsee
"arsee" discovered her passion for music at a very young age. Growing up in Adelaide around her parent’s eclectic vinyl collection, she soon became fascinated with music. But it wasn't until arsee was living in the UK that the dream came to life, living with a local DJ where she quickly acquired her skills. Later moving to Brisbane, arsee dived head first into the Brisbane music scene and surrounded herself with the new and exciting music that the city had to offer.
Residing now in Brisbane she is no stranger to the club scene, holding down two residencies in Fortitude Valley. You'll see her most weekends at either The Wickham Hotel or Fringe Bar. With her extensive knowledge of music, she is regularly called upon to play at annual and pop up events such as Lick Brisbane, Zip Grrl Factory, Scarlet, Sugar (GC), Big Gay Day, Brisbane Pride Fair Day and Tropical Fruits. Whether it’s funky vocal house, progressive, dirty electro or trance she always manages to find the right track to raise the adrenaline on the dance floor just one more notch.
For arsee it’s all about the music. It’s about keeping the dance floor pumping all night and seeing the crowd totally lose themselves. From the sexy vocals or big baselines, to the timeless anthems that she drops, it’s all melodically interwoven.
Her arsenal of tracks and intense energy during sets is second to none and she always stays true too her "old school" roots, playing an energetic mix of many different styles, always with a banging funky baseline.
DJ arsee has graced the decks along the east coast from the Sunshine Coast to the Gold Coast and was selected as a finalist in the Midsumma national DJ search in 2011 and 2012. You’ll also hear her on Brisbane local radio bringing to the forefront the latest and greatest music news, reviews and personal mixes. Behind the scenes, arsee is looking at expanding her horizons, by combining her extensive knowledge of music and working towards producing her own tracks.
This is a DJ who is truly flexible in genres and has the right arsenal for your ears.

DJ Shanobear
Few professional DJs have lasted the distance of DJ Shanobear, with his first gig being more than a decade ago back at Sydney’s The Taxi Club, “back in the day when it was a great place to hang out and a fun place to dance.” Initially, he was supposed to do an hour set after the karaoke finished. Within weeks, his time was extended to two hours, and shortly after he was playing to a packed club every Friday and Saturday until 6am!
“This initial run at the Taxi Club was a brilliant time and I made some amazing lasting friendships there.”
2013 was DJ Shanobear’s 10th anniversary as a professional DJ and he is still spinning as hard and as regularly now as he was ten years ago.
DJ Shanobear was the featured DJ at Sunshine Coast Pride Festival’s Launch Fundraising Party on Saturday, 16th November 2013 at The Sands Tavern, Maroochydore, along with his darling ‘husbear’, Charles.
“I'm happy I still get to show my (musical) versatility on a regular basis. In 2013 I was at Beast 2 in Melbourne, followed up by a pure retro show during Southern Hibearnation, and finally a throwback to when I first started out at the now defunct Taxi Club, with my super Diva extravaganza for Sunshine Coast Pride Launch Party. It's been a great 2013 and past 10 years with many more to come.
Can’t wait to see my Sunny Coast mates again soon in 2014.”
Dj Shanobear is also a regular host of “Bearaoke” – his own unique style of karaoke, and he will be bringing that along with him to the 2014 6th Annual Sunshine Coast Pride Festival.
GENRE: Karaoke, ‘Bearaoke”, Retro, Versatile, Funky and Fabulous.
