Stories, satire and tackling injustice at the Sydney Mardi Gras.

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras has announced that political provocateur Simon Hunt, the man behind Pauline Pantsdown, and music mainstay Paul Mac have been added to the line-up for the annual Queer Thinking seminar at Seymour Centre on Saturday 21 February 2015.

When Simon Hunt unleashed his drag-dissident persona Pauline Pantsdown in 1997, few could have predicted Pantsdown would outlast her political prototype from Ipswich. A decade and a half later, the iconic satirist is still motivating thousands of social firebrands into action, with an inclusive agenda that goes way beyond Queer.

Hunt will take to the stage at Queer Thinking, using his trademark wit to provide insight into his colourful and fun approach to tackling injustice, social media, satire, and his merging of the political with the personal.

Long-time friends and music mavericks Paul Mac and Jonny Seymour have worked with everyone from LCD Soundsystem, Kylie Minogue, George Michael and Sia, to the Bangarra Dance Company and fashion designer Carla Zampatti. These days’ sought-after remixes and DJ sets such as Stereogamous find them spreading beats and bear-hugs at Gay Pride events spanning Berlin to London, NYC to Madrid.

With a much anticipated new Paul Mac album due out this month and a collaboration with Performance Space at Carriageworks for Mardi Gras, the down-to-earth pair will chat with journalist Paris Pompor about the past, present and future.

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras’ Queer Thinking, is a program of talks, issues and provocations. Spanning a diverse range of topics and perspectives, Queer Thinking features singular and controversial thought leaders, activists and artists, challenging the status quo and telling their stories.

The announcement of Pantsdown and Mac is just a sample of the Queer Thinking program set to be released in full over the coming weeks. Organisations including Twenty10, ACON, Wear It Purple and Queer Screen will also be presenting sessions at Queer Thinking.
