The Australian Lesbian Medical Association floatThe Australian Lesbian Medical Association is pleased to announce our 2018-20 funding round of grants to the total value of $30,000 over three years.

The aim of the grant is to improve the health and wellbeing of Australian lesbians and bisexual women through enabling small projects in education or research, which can be completed within three years. We are particularly interested in projects that focus on

  • Connection to community
  • Identity and expression
  • Mental health

 

Projects in other areas will be considered and projects must be nationally applicable.  Project proposals from The Australian Lesbian Medical Association (ALMA) members will be considered even if the proposed project is based overseas.

ALMA GRANT INFORMATION AND SELECTION CRITERIA

Grant Aim and Goals

The aim of the grant is to improve the health and health care of Australian lesbian and bisexual women through enabling small projects in education or research.

A social model of health is our focus including ensuring equity and access to health care. We favour research and education proposals using a collaborative, partnership model.

Selection process

A selection panel of at least three people will comprise at least one member with postgraduate research experience/qualifications, one member with educational experience/qualifications, and at least one member must be an ALMA committee member. Members are to declare any association with applicants and will be replaced if deemed to have a conflict of interest. Selection will be based on 3 independent scores, and then a consensus decision will be made.

All applicants will be notified of the selection panel decision within 1 month of applications closing. They may request a copy of scores and reviewers comments.

The successful applicant may be invited to attend an ALMA conference, during which an award presentation can be made.

Selection rating criteria

  • Relevance and significance to lesbian and bisexual women’s health, 10 points
  • Relevance of project proposal against key theme/s, 10 points
  • Quality of the research or educational methodology and design, 30 points
  • Feasibility of the project in achieving its stated objectives within the time-frame, 30 points
  • Evidence of research or educational experience, or for new researchers/educators, evidence of supervision by an experienced researcher/educator, 10 points
  • Feasibility of the budget, 10 points

Reporting and other requirements

  • Ethics approval must be obtained if applicable to the project type.
  • The grant holder must submit an interim report halfway through the project and a final report within 3 months of project completion, including a financial statement to the ALMA committee.
    • Payment can be made once successful applicants are announced or as agreed.
  • The successful applicant(s) may be invited to present the outcomes of their project at an ALMA conference
  • The successful applicant(s) is/are encouraged to submit a paper to a peer-reviewed journal regarding the research/education outcomes.
