Still from 'Imagine Me And You'
Still from ‘Imagine Me And You’

No matter how they tossed the dice, it had to be.

Imagine Me and You, made in 2005, is an endearing romantic comedy that is sure to put a smile on your face.

The movie opens on Rachel’s wedding day. The happiest day of her life. Also a day that would change the course of her life. During the ceremony, she meets Luce, her florist. Rachel’s wedding ring slips off and falls into the punch. Luce tells Rachel to cover her, so Rachel stands in front of her while Luce reaches into the punch to retrieve Rachel’s ring. This seemingly innocent exchange starts a friendship that turns Rachel’s world upside down.

Rachel invites Luce to dinner with the intention of setting her up with her husband’s friend, Cooper. That is until it is learned that Luce is a lesbian. That fact, however, does not stop Cooper. Throughout the movie, he continues to try to persuade Luce, though he never succeeds.

The more time Rachel and Luce spend together, the more Rachel finds herself questioning her identity. From the first moment the two had exchanged glances, both women felt an incredible connection. It is a connection that Rachel cannot deny.

Rachel loves her husband Hector (Heck for short), but the lure of Luce was far too great for her to resist. What separates this film from your standard cliched movie is that Imagine Me and You focuses on the connection between Luce and Rachel, not any lust. Sex isn’t what drives them, it’s an undeniable bond. The focus on that tie makes this movie that much more delightful.

Piper Perabo perfectly portrays Rachel; Luce is played by Lena Headey. Matthew Goode is Heck, while Darren Boyd plays Cooper. Boo Jackson plays H, a little girl named Henrietta who is absolutely adorable and amazingly poignant. Rounding out the cast are Celia Imrie, Anthony Head, Sue Johnston, Sharon Horgan, Vinette Robinson, Eva Birthistle, and Ben Miles.

Imagine Me and You is a fun, light-hearted rom-com that is sure to entertain you. If you’re looking for an easy, enjoyable movie to watch this weekend, this is it! That is if you haven’t already seen this lesbian classic.
