Support Ask Arlene's son

The son of LOTL.com's nutritionist is raising money for charity through the Ironman race.

For some it is the buzz or the great shopping of New York that attracts them and a simple plane ride is all that is required. For Jason Shein, 25, the journey has been a little more intense.

On August 11, Jason who hails from the Eastern Suburbs, will be diving into the Hudson River in Manhattan in an attempt to complete his first Ironman to raise money and awareness for ZERO, a charity that aims to eliminate prostate cancer.

Finishing an Ironman is no easy achievement. The race entails a 3.9km swim, 180km bike ride and a 42.2km marathon just to cap it off. The road to New York has required hours upon hours of time in the water, on the saddle and countless strides.  Jason will spend up to 27 hours training a week at his peak preparing for the event.

He has competed in the SMH Half Marathon, Bondi Barefoot 10km soft sand race, Byron Bay Triathlon and the epic 175.5km La Vaujany cycling race over the French Alps in preparation for the event. Yet he still feels nothing will prepare him for the pain that he will go through in trying to make it across the finish line in New York.

Asked why he puts himself through this, the answer is simple, “Having had a number of health issues in recent years I wanted to prove that people can recover and anything is possible. I wanted to do something big. This is big. It is for a great cause and I really hope it draws peoples’ awareness and support”.
