See the Secret Diaries of Miss Anne Lister by moonlight
The hit flick of MIFF, The Secret Diaries of Miss Anne Lister, will thrill audiences once more at Melbourne Queer Film Festival's Movies under the Stars
The Secret Diaries of Miss Anne Lister
James Kent's festival hit, The Secret Diaries of Miss Anne Lister will play at a special one-off screening on Movies Under the Stars.
Opening and closing queer film festivals the world over, The Secret Diaries of Miss Anne Lister tells the incredible, based-on-a-true-story tale of an early 19th century English gentlewoman who 'preferred the fairer sex' and recorded her conquests in a coded diary, later discovered by a local historian. But you can expect more than a restrained, straitlaced Jane Austen costume drama, as saucy Anne (magnificently played by Maxine Peake) and her maiden Mariana are sneaking off into the woods for furtive dalliances at the first opportunity, and Anne cruises girls openly in church of a Sunday.
This outstanding, BBC-produced period romance moves at a cracking pace as Anne juggles erratic lovers, jealous best friends, evil businessmen, major estate renovations ñ all while practicing her shooting. And so the big question becomes, which lady does Anne have in her sights? Love of her life Mariana? Faithful friend Tib? Or will it be pretty Miss Walker, the wealthiest heiress in the county?
