Friday Feb 23 will see the inaugural AFL Women’s Pride Game played at Whitten Oval. Both the Western Bulldogs and Carlton women’s teams will be wearing special pride jerseys for the game.
The Pride Game is an initiative by the Western Bulldogs, aiming to promote inclusiveness and diversity, as well as celebrating the prowess of the female athletes.
There has been some criticism surrounding Carlton’s participation due to their failure to support the Yes vote, however inclusion is a positive step forward for skipper Brianna Davey, who is openly gay. The game will be extra special, sharing the field with her partner Tilly Lucas-Rodd, Carlton midfielder.
The event will feature pre-event activities for fans, including the big reveal of the Pride Jersey, and will be covered live by radio station JOY 94.9 FM.
