‘Stripping From The Inside Out’ Documentary Upcoming Screening
Australia's first documentary uncovering the Sydney burlesque industry.
Lauren aka Lady DeVine
Award winning filmmaker Lauren Batschowanow is set to present the first and only screening of her latest feature film, Stripping from the Inside Out on Wednesday 7th December before entering the international film festival circuit.
Imogen Kelly, one of Australia’s pioneers in the revival of burlesque in Sydney said, “If you’d had told me that my world (as a stripper) would be celebrated globally, by women, I would have said—you don’t know women and you don’t know the world. But it’s really changed, and I would like it to continue.”
Written, directed, and produced by Lauren, Stripping from the Inside Out is Australia’s first documentary on revealing the Sydney burlesque industry.
Lauren, aka Lady DeVine, who won the title of Miss Burlesque Sydney in 2016, has spent the last 18 months capturing interviews with some of Sydney’s top burlesque performers. She also captured around a dozen sows featuring roughly twenty burlesque entertainers to highlight this mostly underground and generally misunderstood art form.
Featured in the documentary, Glitta Supernova said, “To be able to laugh about sexual stuff in itself, for women, and laugh at the absurdity of the situation we’re all living in, laugh about the human condition, you know, all that stuff, by laughing through a sexual filter it’s actually really good for you, it’s really healing and really liberating.”
The film was made completely independently through Lauren’s indie production company, Russian Doll Productions.
The screening will be held at Beats Eats Drinks in Glebe on Wednesday 7th December at 7PM.
