This beautiful celebration of theatre and life that is Zimmerman's Metamorphoses is something to relish.

Ovid’s METAMORPHOSES reimagined for the 40th Anniversary of Mardi Gras “Recaptures the primal allure of the theatre... It shows that theatre can provide not just escape but sometimes a glimpse of the divine.” – Time Magazine

“Bodies, I have in mind…” Set in and around a body of water, Metamorphoses collides the ancient and the modern to celebrate the primal body and the staying power of love and desire in the face of constant and inevitable change. Nominated for 3 Tony Awards including Best Play, Mary Zimmerman’s play is reimagined through a queer lens for the 40th Anniversary of Mardi Gras.Savage and tender, queer and irreverent, with vivid imagery and visionary theatricality, Ovid’s poem of ancient Greek tales is roused to soul-stirring life.

For director Dino Dimitriadis, whose critically-acclaimed production of Doubt: A Parable played at the Old Fitz in 2017, “this is a wildly ambitious production, with a demanding stage design and a largely queer-identifying team of twenty-three.

It is an honour to be reimagining this vast work within the intimacy of the Old Fitz stage for Mardi Gras’ anniversary. For Red Line Artistic Director Andrew Henry, “Dino's vision and ambition for this production cemented it very early on in our 2018 program. There has never been a bigger show in the Old Fitz Theatre and this beautiful celebration of theatre and life that is Zimmerman's Metamorphoses is something to relish”
