Artists, Submit Your Work To MELT!

Get involved in celebrating LGBTIQ arts and culture

Returning for its second year, MELT: A Celebration of Queer Arts and Culture will take over Brisbane Powerhouse from 4-14 February 2016 and is inviting artists to submit their work.

Brisbane Powerhouse Artistic Director Kris Stewart said the festival is set to once again be a highlight of both the Summer social and cultural calendars.

“MELT is about igniting Brisbane Powerhouse with LGBTIQ arts ranging from community-based family events to a mix of stunning performances and films.

“This year we have Adam Gardnir leading the program as Festival Director. Adam brings extensive producing experience with the likes of Midsumma Festival and White Night Festival in Melbourne, so we’re really excited to have him on-board.”

According to Gardnir the 2016 festival will continue last year’s themes with an increased emphasis on programming and social events.

“Our mission is to host the most fabulous festival in Brisbane. This year we’re going to shake things up and create a program that is fun, edgy and diverse to really celebrate the many aspects of the queer community.

“We’re looking for artists from all art forms including music, drama, dance, drag, cabaret, comedy, circus, fashion, film and visual arts—this is the community’s chance to get involved.”

In 2016 MELT will again umbrella the much loved Brisbane Queer Film Festival (BQFF), with BQFF taking place in the two weeks following MELT. Full program details for both streams will be announced later this year.

An information evening for MELT artists will be held on the Turbine Platform at Brisbane Powerhouse on Monday 3 August at 7pm.

Artist submissions close at 5pm on Friday 7 August 2015.
