Amandla Stenberg Rejected Role in Black Panther To Make Room For Darker Skinned Actor

Source: Instagram

Amandla Stenberg, a bisexual, non-binary actor on the rise declined a role in the groundbreaking megahit “Black Panther” to give a darker skinned actor a shot. “One of the most challenging things for me to do was to walk away from Black Panther,” Stenberg revealed to CBC, “I got really, really close and they were like, ‘Do you want to continue fighting for this?’ And I was like, this isn’t right...” Stenberg explained, “These are all dark-skinned actors playing Africans, and I feel like it would have just been off to see me as a bi-racial American with a Nigerian accent just pretending that I’m the same color as everyone else in the movie... That was really challenging, to make that decision, but I have no regrets. I recognize 100 percent that there are spaces that I should not take up and when I do take up a space it’s because I’ve thought really, really critically about it and I’ve consulted people I really trust and it feels right.” Sometimes walking the walk of diversity and inclusion means giving up opportunities for yourself for the greater good. Amandla is a rare example of a celebrity willing to pass up a major role to do the right thing.

Cara Delevingne Takes Her Reptile Ears Out On The Town

Someone enjoyed The Shape of Water a little too much. The model/actress debuted a strange new body modification while attending Paris fashion week: ribbed ears. Yes, you heard me. Ribbed ears. Somehow, someway, and for reason, Delevingne had the insides of her ears molded into a line of symmetrical, somewhat reptilian ridges. Here’s a closeup of the above instagram post:

You have to give the girl credit. She’s really taking the “be weird yet effortlessly beautiful” ingenue role and running with it, straight outta the gate, state, and continent. Does anyone else wanna feel the inside of Cara Delevingne’s ears now? Is that weird? It’s so weird. Do not do this to yourself unless you are a model. People will just assume there’s something deeply wrong with you and express sympathy. No one will want to touch your ears.

Lea DeLaria Crashed A Lesbian Wedding

Wedding Crashers 3: Dykes Down Under. Lea DeLaria delighted two lesbian OITNB superfans by crashing their wedding with a few OITNB co-stars. Lea Delaria and her OITNB castmates traveled to Australia to celebrate Sydney pride and decided to make two lucky women the most popular lesbians in empowerment circle. In a video posted on Netflix’s Facebook, Lea Delaria, Danielle Brooks, and Yael Stone are recorded plotting the surprise and crashing the lesbian’s wedding reception with giddy enthusiasm. It’s absolutely worth watching for a quick pick me up.

St. Vincent lurks through Oscar Performance in Incognito Micro Dress

St. Vincent joined Sufjan Stevens to perform “Mystery of Love” from gay smash Call Me By Your Name at the 2018 Oscars. Accompanied by Moses Sumney, Chris Thile, Casey Foubert and James McAlister, spotting St. Vincent on the crowded stage proved a bit tricky until I managed to hone in on those impossibly long gams (THAT’S LEGS TO YOU SCRAPPY MILLENIALS) lurking below her tiniest of tiny black dresses. Oh, and she was the only girl. That was a big hint too. St. Vincent did fine, I guess, although it was hard to distinguish her voice from all those bros. Lack of spotlight aside, it’s wonderful to see a queer female musician representing at the biggest awards ceremony on Earth. Especially on behalf of an Oscar nominated gay romance.

Evan Rachel Wood details sexual assaults to US Congress

Today in “God that’s awful,” Evan Rachel Wood shared her experiences with sexual assault and domestic violence with the U.S. Government’s House Judiciary Committee last week. She spoke on behalf of the Survivors Bill of Rights Act, a bill of rights for sexual assault survivors. "My experience with domestic violence was this," she said, "the toxic mental, physical and sexual abuse which started slow but escalated over time, including threats against my life, severe gaslighting and brainwashing, waking up to the man that claimed to love me, raping what he believed to be my unconscious body.” In addition to this experience, Wood described being raped by a co-worker while working at a bar: "Not a day goes by when I don't hear the words this man whispered into my ear over and over, 'You're gonna be fine. You're gonna be fine. You're gonna be fine. And then my small voice saying back 'No, no, no...' until it faded into nothing." As result of these experience, Wood was diagnosed with long-term PTSD. "Even though these experiences happened a decade ago, I still struggle with the aftermath," she said. "My relationship suffers, my partners suffer, my mental and physical health suffer.” Watch the full testimony above. It’s difficult, but incredibly important, as is this bill and conversation.

Season 2 of Lesbian-Focused Series 'Take My Wife' Is Finally Available

Gay viewers rejoice: you can finally watch season two of ‘Take My Wife,’ Rhea Butcher and Cameron Esposito’s critically lauded comedy about a lesbian couple. The fan favorite’s future was thrown into limbo last November, when NBC shuttered their streaming service Seeso. With Season 2 wrapped but no network to air it, ‘Take My Wife’ rallied fans to try to find a new home. Here was an opportunity for TV execs to put their big words about diversity into action; a popular comedy with two bankable comedy stars and devoted viewership. Disappointingly and exceptionally unsurprisingly, not a single network or streaming service was willing to air a sitcom about lesbians. This week, the creators of ‘Take My Wife’ announced they’d finally found a way for viewers to watch Season 2 of the show. It is now available on iTunes.
