Alia Shawkat is Bisexual, Stella Maxwell is Naked
Plus lesbians have taken over the Democratic Party.
Alia Shawkat is Bisexual, Arab-American, and Outspoken
Alia Shawkat has been in the public eye since childhood, but she’s just now opening up about her bisexuality. In a new interview with Out, the Arrested Development alum spoke out about how her sexuality impacts her work. “I co-wrote and star in a new film called ‘Duck Butter,’ which opens later this year,” she said. “I love that it was written for a man and a woman, but we couldn’t find the right guy, so now it happens to star two women [as lovers]. I used to be less outspoken. But as a woman, an Arab-American, and a member of the LGBTQ community, I have to use whatever voice I have. There’s no more delicacy in being quiet.”
On her bisexuality: “I was a tomboy growing up, and I remember my mom asking me when I was 10, ‘Are you attracted to boys or girls?’ I said I don’t know. Now I consider myself bisexual, and I think balancing my male and female energies has been a big part of me growing as an actor.”
Lesbians Now Running the Democratic Party, Thank God
Via Emily’s List
Lesbians are here to fix America’s fuckery. The new CEO of the DNC is a power lesbian named Jess O’Connell and she’s ready to rumble. O’Connell was a major player in Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign (RIP boo boo) and the former Executive Director of EMILY’s List, an organization that helps female candidates get elected.
Jill Soloway’s Sexuality And Gender Is Evolving
In the last few years, Jill Soloway’s sexuality and gender identity have evolved in unexpected ways. The Transparent and I Love Dick creator went from identifying as a straight woman to a queer, non-binary individual. In a new interview with KSMU, Soloway explained the change: “I think since we last spoke I’ve become more queer and more gender nonconforming, and basically [I’ve] gotten rid of everything that one would consider femme-presenting in my life. …I realized at the tender age of 50 that I had a life yet to live that I didn’t even realize was mine. I dated women and started to find myself in a queer community and around lesbians, and I think my evolution became not just about being queer, not just about being a lesbian, but really [about] being willing to look at my own gender. … Something for me about a non-binary identity and identifying as queer is allowing me to be more at home with my ideas and my mind.”
Vogue Fawns Over Super Queer Skater
Lacey Baker is a queer pro-skater who just joined the prestigious ranks of Nike’s skate team. Last month, Baker’s Thrasher video went viral, earning the skater praise and accolades from the infamously macho skater community. Baker’s gender is fluid. She’s been known to identify as female, male, and non-binary. In a recent interview with Vogue, Baker named the queer community as one of her style influences: “I feel very androgynous. I’m on the more masculine side, which I’ve always been completely comfortable with. I always dressed in boys’ clothes and never really had a desire to wear anything feminine.”
Stella Maxwell Is Naked On The Cover Of Vogue Brazil
Feast your eyes on Kristen Stewart’s naked supermodel girlfriend. Self-esteem wise, I don’t think I could deal with Brazil. It’s bad enough living in Los Angeles as a five among hard eights and nines. Brazil is a nation of straight up tens.
Lauren Jauregui Britain’s LGBT Person Of The Year
I can never spell her name, no matter how many times I write it, and that bothers me because I like to think of myself as a strong speller. Anyway, Lauren won “Person of The Year” at the 2017 British LGBT Awards. Yay Lauren. She’s repping bisexual latinx women on every continent and I am here for it.
You Should Really Be Listening To LP
She’s the next great lesbian singer, haven’t you heard? LP has been grinding away for a while. She’s big in Europe and her song “Muddy Waters” went viral after being featured in Orange Is The New Black. Yet somehow, after years of moderate success and critical acclaim, the out singer isn’t well known stateside. The Advocate interviewed LP and talked the double standard for gay and straight music videos: “I’ve been asked, ‘So, LP, you’re very out there, you’re kissing women in your videos and it’s very sexual.’ And I’m like, ‘Dude, there are people literally simulating intercourse in videos.’ I just like kissed my girlfriend on the cheek. If I were a guy or she were a guy it would be the most PG- or G-rated thing of all time!”
LP also gives no fucks about homophobic listeners: “If it offends somebody to hear ‘she’ or ‘her’ come out of a woman’s voice in a romantic [way], I don’t give a fuck. I don’t ever think about myself as some kind of — where my sexuality is — I only think of it from a human standpoint of love. And I don’t think there is any difference between romantic relationships of any kind.
Amandla Stenberg Makes “Let My Baby Stay” Super Gay
Amandla Stenberg not only covered Mac DeMarco's "Let My Baby Stay," she directed and starred in a music video for the dreamy, super queer cover. Her version will be featured on the soundtrack for Everything, Everything, an upcoming teen drama that Amandla is starring in. Check out the video for a smooth, cerebral musical experience.
Amber Heard Dances Through The Streets Of Australia
SHE BANGS SHE BANGS SHE MOVES SHE MOVES SHE LOOKS LIKE A FLOWER BUT SHE STINGS LIKE A BEE. Heard was spotted dancing with locals on the Gold Coast. She’s filming a movie and apparently needed to let off some steam in Byron Bay/celebrate Cinco De Mayo by getting drunk and twirling. So relatable.
